A handwritten and a typewritten note from the original owner's family member is included. This was made in 1900 or 1901 in Houston, Texas by a Mr. Willoughby from England as a gift for his employer's wife, Mrs. Nihills, while he worked for Acme Lumber Company. Mr. Willoughby carved Houston's early newel posts and front doors and was able to carve both left and right handed. Mr. Willoughby is known to have made only one other piece like this. Height: 88"
