Houston, TX - Republic of Texas $500 Jan. 15, 1838 Cr. H12 Medlar 47This is, by far, the rarest of the "Star" note issue denominations. Medlar listed this note as R.6 in his reference, and estimated that only 200 notes were originally issued. This note, like most from this issue, isn't very nice, grading Good-Very Good overall but having the body of a much higher grade. There are three closed cut-cancellations, and most distracting are the several nicks and pieces missing from the edges. The two right corners are heavily repaired. Although collectors of Gem CU Large Size type notes would be offended by this rather unimpressive piece of tattered paper, specialists of Texas ephemera will recognize this as one of the prized issues of the entire Republic era. We expect bidding to exceed $1,000.From the Steve Ivy Texas Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
