Houston, TX - Republic of Texas $10 Dec. 31, 1837 Cr. H4, Medlar 31Although most examples of this type are heavily worn or damaged, they remain among the most sought after Republic of Texas currency issues. This piece has a rather pleasing appearance, with paper quality that is suggestive of a Very Fine grade or even higher, but it has a vertical cut down the center that has been tape repaired, and there is a cut-out cancellation at left that has been repaired with some of the script printing and Henry Smith's signature redrawn. Two auditor's stamp cancellations are also present at right. This note greatly resembles the $5 note offered above in both appearance and manner of repair, and should fetch a similar price. From the Steve Ivy Texas Collection.
