Hotel Register. Dramatic bound guest register
Hotel Register. Dramatic bound guest register of American House, St. Albans, Vermont, Henry A. Dunbar, Prop., Apr. 25-June 19, 1911, with signatures of guests, their city of residence, room number and notation of their horse. 10 1/4 x 1 6, unpaginated but 1 to 2 pp. per day, 1/2 " thick, maroon buckram with matching glazed leather spine and tips. Drawing guests from the entire Northeast, including Boston and New York City, it is possible that persons of note are among the many hundreds. Clerk's notes in pencil include "Cigar 25 ," "1 Ex Supper," and horses shown as 1/4 to 1 3/4 . Several Jewish guests are noted, including Leo Jacoby (May 9), P.D. Shapiro (June 13), H. Hyman (June 14), Arthur Straus (June 14), and J. Weisberg (Apr. 25) of New York City. Many of the signatures are interesting in and of themselves, as because of the generous space provided for each entry in the register, most guests have signed larger than they would customarily have. Red stickers affixed to some pages by hotel, "Stop at fireproof Kaiserhof Hotel, 270 Clark St., Chicago." Light cover wear, else V.G.
