This Chinese horseshoe armchair dates to the19th/20th century and is made of red brown wood. The armrest is shaped in the form of a horseshoe and supported by three round side bars which are connected with the flat rectangular seat. This typical design is one of the most distinctive of the Chinese furniture tradition. The back is richly carved. The upper part shows two relief panels, the upper of which is embellished with polychrome painting, depicting scenes from the Chinese opera. The legs are connected with straight bars which serve as a footrest. The front frame features a rich, floral openwork decoration. The chair has a simple shape and shows the fine grain of the wood, which has a dark brown color with slightly reddish nuances. Chairs of this kind were status symbols reserved for judges, senior officials and guests of honor.

The horseshoe chair is in good condition with some signs of age and wear. There are some age cracks to the wood and some material abrasions here and there. The chair has a back height of 96 cm, a seat height of 49.5 cm, a seat depth of 38 cm and a width of 62 cm.
