This is a tobacco box from the early 1900's. The top, front and back of the box all say "Drummond's Horse Shoe Tobacco" with the chewing tobacco's logo of an open-side-up horse shoe. On the front of the box is a large fragment of a tobacco stamp. The stamp is mostly illegible, but the years 1909 and 1916 can be seen, along with the denomination of 10 ounces. On the bottom of the box is printed with "Liggett & Meyers Tobacco Co.", along with a legal notice. The Drummond Tobacco Co. in St. Louis, MO was purchased by the Tobacco Trust in 1898. Liggett & Meryers, another St. Louis Tobacco company was purchased by the Trust a year later. In 1911, the Trust was dissolved by the U.S. Supreme Court. Liggett & Meyers was one of four companies to emerge, along with that of R.J. Reynolds. The box is in good condition for its age and does include the top which is held on by one nail. The box shows dovetail construction at the corners. The box measures 13" x 6 5/8" and is 3" tall.
