A Ladies leg bit with sterling silver mounted on stainless steel 8” cheeks designed by Grijalva. Mouthpiece is copper-inlaid with 2” port and copper roller. Slobber chains. Bit shanks are marked “EG*” on inner surface. Eduardo Grijalva (1914-1994) was in actuality a Yavapai Indian. He grew up on his parents’ ranch in El Coyotillo, Mexico where he first became interested in bit making. By 1948 he was working at making bits and spurs full time, shaping by hand every roller, mouthpiece and cheekpiece. His son Juan Adolfo Grijalva has spent his lifetime learning his father’s trade, and is master bit and spur maker in the finest tradition, as was his father. He works from the same open-air shop in Magdalena, Mexico where his father worked for 48 years, and like his father, uses the same famous EG* mark. Neither father nor son advertised nor shipped their work, yet there was and is a constant demand for their hand-crafted products. Continuing the tradition is Eduardo’s grandson and Juan’s son Ricardo Valencia Grijalva, who continues to make handmade bits and spurs today under the L5* mark [Ref: silverandsaddles.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html]. -59265
