Hopi Mesas,AZ - Navajo County - 1870s-1930s - Hopi Pueblo Stereoview :
A close-up photo of an adobe pueblo, with a young woman standing in front of a doorway on the second level. To the left is a 3-step wooden ladder giving access from the ground to her level. One can also see various windows and doorways around her. Published by Montgomery Ward & Co. of Chicago, this card is a Special Edition of Tourists’ Series, part of Special Subjects of America Illustrated—Miscellaneous Subjects of American Scenery (printed on matte). No other identification of photographer or place. The young woman in the photo wears a long skirt and long-sleeve blouse, but her traditional “butterfly” hairdo leads one to conclude she is an unmarried Hopi woman and this pueblo is located on one of the three Hopi mesas. 3.5 x7."
