From the Nick and Suzanne Nicholas Collection we have a Hopi Butterfly Maiden Tableta, measures 17.5''H (includes feathers) x 14''W, small braided jute ring to protect top of head, gorgeously painted in lavender-orange-black-yellow-white-red and pink, one side depicts the butterfly maiden and two flowers while the other side has a bear fetish with powerpack and two bearpaws, tabletas ( dance tablets ) are worn by young women during the butterfly dance, a social dance held every August. Each headdress is one-of-a-kind, incorporating various Hopi symbols and motifs. Tabletas are usually handmade by a girl's male dance partner.
