Herbert Hoover: Signed First Edition of The Challenge to Liberty. (New York & London: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1934), first edition ("A" and seal on copyright page), 212 pages, beautiful red cloth with gilt titles on the spine and the front board, 8vo (5.75" x 8"), dust jacket (in protective Mylar). Inscribed and signed "To General Thornwall Mullally With the Kind Regards of Herbert Hoover" on the front free endpaper. Hoover defends the American way of life against such threats as Fascism, Socialism, Naziism, and Communism in this impassioned book, his first communication to the American people since leaving the White House the year before. He also attacks a perceived loss of individual freedom under Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal policies, an idea shared my many Americans at the time. The book presented here is in very good condition, in a very good unclipped dust jacket, and comes housed in a custom red quarter leather slipcase with gilt spine lettering, five raised spine bands, and marbled boards.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
