Item 1 is an extremely rare license for the Hoosier State Mill. This city license was granted in 1873 and signed by the Virginia City mayor Hopkin(?) and clerk E. Clarkson. The second piece is a receipt for 20 flasks of quicksilver weighing 1,530 tons. The Hoosier Mill was actually in the city itself between G and H streets. It was built in 1862. The state mineralogist report of 1866 notes that it is a stream mill using 3 1/2 cords a day. At the time of these documents the mill was processing ore from the Savage Mine with 18 stamps and had a capacity of 40 tons a day.City: Virginia CityCounty: StoreyState: NV
