A rare example of a column remembering the wife of a military commander
Object is regular taxed. Differential taxation is not possible.
This remarkable piece dating to the Jin dynasty (265-420) is a very early example of an honorary column, which was erected by a high military official to remember his wife. The base boasts a floral relief, the upper half is carved to imitate bamboo stalks. The carved epitaph bearing an inscription with 15 characters in five lines states the dynasty, the name of the wife and the military rank of the husband, who was a chivalry commander. Honorary columns had a similar function as stupas in the Buddhist tradition. Known examples for women are very rare for most of these early epitaphs were made for male officials or officers.

The column is in fair condition with wear consistent with age such as some material losses. The plinth is a later addition and in the style of the period. The height is 73.5 cm and the width 27.5 cm.
