China, 5 Dollars, P-S353, S/M#Y13-40, handstamp on reverse reads "HOT DOG STAND / U.S.S. Black Hawk". USS Black Hawk (AD-9) was a destroyer tender commissioned by the Navy in 1918. It was stationed in Scotland and took part in the North Sea mine sweep before returning to New York and serving as a flagship for the Atlantic Fleet destroyers. After installing a torpedo workshop, she served in the Caribbean and Panamanian waters until 1922 when she was deployed for 20 years in the Far East tending Destroyer Squadrons 5 (1922-40) and 29 (1940-42). The ship also served in Australia, Japan, and was even at Peal Harbor for a few months in 1943-1944. Black Hawk was decommissioned in 1946. A fascinating note with a colorful history. PMG graded Very Good 10 with a comment of "Ink", BWC.
