A native of Texas who settled in Loveland, Colorado, Hollis Williford became a sculptor and painter of western figures. He began his study at the University of Texas at Arlington and finished with a degree from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles.

He worked for a brief period as a freelance illustrator and then moved to Colorado to dedicate himself to easel painting, charcoal drawing and bronze sculpture. Twice he won the Prix de West competition, and his 12-foot bronze, Welcome Sundown, is permanently featured at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

His paintings and sculptures are in numerous other collections including the Thomas Gilcrease Museum, Genesee County Museum, Lacross Hall of Fame, Middlebury College, Whitney Gallery of Western Art, Denver Art Museum, and the Vail, Colorado Public Library.
