Holland and Holland single shot Rook type rifle marked .250 semi-smoothbore with 98 New Bond St., London address and “Winner of all field trials” markings with patent number 1294. The gun measures 42 ½ inches over allwith 26 inch octagon barrel that is mounted with a 3 leaf folding rear sight. The bore shows a shallow rifling which is obviously termed a “Semi- Smoothbore”. The top flat of the barrel is nicely matted and the framelightly scroll engraved as is the trigger guard. The Tang is numbered 18626. The barrell retains 85% to 95% original blue drifting to Brown with a slight amount of erosion just starting and some dried shellacor oil. The frame also shows 60% to 80% case hardening with same dried oil or shellac. There is a safety mounted on right side of frame with gold letters. The gun locks well and the bore is at least very good. TheseHolland and Holland Rook rifles are seldom encountered and this is the only Semi-Smoothbore we have catalogued in 44 years.
