<B>Alfred M. Hobby; To The Memory of Colonel Thomas S. Lubbock</B></I> who died at Nashville, Tenn., on Thursday, January 9, 1862, while in the service of his country, commanding the Texas Rangers; dedicated to Governor R. F. Lubbock. [Galveston? Tex.], 1862. Broadside 31 x 19.3 cm. Removed from a 19th century scrapbook with several newspaper clippings on verso. Minor chipping to right margin affecting several words. Overall a good to very good copy. <BR><BR>"[Thomas] Lubbock was in business in Houston at the outbreak of the Civil War, when he joined B. F. Terry, went to Virginia, and was elected lieutenant colonel on the organization of Terry's Texas Rangers. After Terry was killed in the battle at Woodsonville, Kentucky, Lubbock was advanced to command of the regiment, but he was ill at the time and died shortly thereafter, possibly on January 23, 1862." <I>Handbook of Texas.</B></I> This broadside provides an earlier date of death.
