This check has a lot going for it. It is imprinted with W. S. Hobart. Hobart (as in Hobart, Nevada) was an extremely important lumbering figure. He signs the check. It is also imprinted with the "Nevada, Sapphire and Atlas Mills." The Atlas was an extremely important Gold Hill mill. The Sapphire was also in Gold Hill. The Nevada seems to be in Virginia City.
