This reata is one of three made by Gary Stark (California). The original is in the Autry Museum of the American West and was owned by George Taylor who, after selling the original, contracted Gary Stark to make an exact duplicate. He was able to duplicate it exactly except for the last 9" where he put his crow foot artist mark. There is approximately 6 1/2 miles of horsehair in it. It took almost 4 months to complete. The leather braiding on the hondo and the end knot are by Burt Paris from Battle Mountain, Nevada. It is 33' long overall.
Published: The original was used for the dust jacket of the Cowboy Culture - The Last Frontier of American Antiques, 2nd edition, by Michael Friedman.
