Featured in this lot are the 1873 Edition, Volume II & III of, "History of the Conquest of Mexico, With a Preliminary View of the Ancient Mexican Civilization and the Life of the Conqueror, Hernando Cortes” by William H. Prescott. Prescott (1796-1859) was an American historian and Hispanist, who is widely recognized by historiographers to have been the first American scientific historian. This is a new and revised edition with the author's latest corrections and additions, edited by John Foster Kirk. The books are bound in a green cloth hard cover showing gold gilt designs and lettering on the front cover and spine of the books. The condition of this set of books is fair, with wear to the outside cover but no signs of major damage is noted. The interior pages show good condition with slight foxing and staining present, but is still in good, readable condition. The books measure 7 9/16" L x 5 1/8" W x 1" D to 7 9/16" L x 5 1/8" W x 1 5/16" D. They have a collective weight of 2 pounds and 6 ounces.
