Historically important Leather bound deluxe wood cased custom Colt engraved and 24 K gold inlaid SAA revolver, by Colt Master engraver Leonard Francolini, .45 cal., 4-3/4" barrel, blue finish, custom finely checkered ivory grips, #99999. This gun is in like new condition with an outstanding compliment of scroll engraving and gold inlays and borders that cover every portion of this firearm. The barrel assembly has extensive deluxe gold banding and inlaid scrolling of the finest quality with both the barrel address and left side caliber designation also being gold inlaid; the breech of the barrel and ejector rod housing are ornamented in raised gold wire; the frame is extensively engraved with fine inlaid gold bordering, the three line patent dates are gold inlaid, the unique serial number is gold inlaid and Francolini signed the front of the frame in gold inlay with the date of his work, 1995. The cylinder is gold inlaid, bordered and the rear of the cylinder matches the same raised gold wire application found at the breech end of the barrel assembly previously mentioned; the back strap and trigger guard are also delicately engraved and gold inlaid; the grips show fine checkering, beautiful graining and a mellow ivory color. This gun also has a unique history that is covered in detail in an accompanying letter from Jim Alaimo basically indicating that one of the supervisors in the Colt Custom Workshop tied up the last available serial number for the third generation of Colt SAA and sometime later sold the gun to Jim Alaimo, former Superintendent of the Colt Custom gun shop. Jim then had engraver Francolini perform his most outstanding work on this firearm. It is also importantly noted in Jim's letter that shortly after this gun was produced at the old original Colt factory in Hartford, Connecticut, the premises were vacated and all the machinery and employees moved to a newer facility outside town. A copy of a factory letter dated September 29, 1998 is also included. The deluxe casing was accomplished by renowned case maker Marvin Huey of Kansas City. It is a form fitted leather bound oak case with green billiard ultra suede French fitted interior with two hand- made screw drivers fitted with ivory handles and tow compartments fitted with ivory lid pulls. The case is contained further in a leather bound canvas protective carrying cover similar to those found accompanying high end cased shotguns or double rifles. From a historic as well as an artistic standpoint, this is truly a one-of-a-kind Colt and worthy of prominence in any private or museum collection. Est.: $20,000-$40,000.
