Historically-associated Winchester Model 1892 lever action rifle, .44 WCF cal., 24” octagon barrel, wood stocks, #219668. This gun is in overall good condition showing an untouched even heavy brown patina on metal surfaces with somehints of original muted blue in protected areas; good bore, action and markings; good wood with scattered nicks, mars and scratches from carry and storage. This rifle descended through the Leigh Hunt family and was given to patriarch Leigh Huntaround 1904 or 1905 by legendary cowboy and actor, Tom Mix. Documentation from the family indicates Mix was hired by Mr. Hunt to work security for his employees and a cement plant being built in Cowen, Tennessee (the town of Le Hunt, Kansas wasnamed after Mr. Hunt who was a major contractor in the late 19th-early 20th century in the mid-west). Mix had been a lawman in Dewey, Oklahoma, was a performer in Wild West shows and was looking for work in the “off seasons”. He notonly protected the plant construction and workers from gamblers, sharpies and other riff raff, but also saw to it that payroll from Independence made it each week to the employees and they didn’t “loose” their earnings on Friday nights in the
