Historical Winchester Model 1873 SRC, .44-40 cal., 20” round barrel, full magazine, set trigger, period nickel finish, wood stocks, #51687 with documented ownership to legendary Western figure John Wallace Crawford, better known as CaptainJack Crawford, the Poet Scout (NOTE: book in composite picture on Internet for this lot is not included with gun as sold separately as Lot 554). This gun is in overall very good condition showing considerable frosty period nickel finishwith wear and use; crisp action, set trigger is working at time of description, good bore, good markings, good wood with general wear to an old black finish from handling that has allowed the brown wood to show thru; to quote an accompanyingR. L. Wilson letter on this gun, “The nickel plated Model 1873 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine bearing serial number 51687 shows the kind of wear and color one would expect from use in the “West” shows.
