Historic grouping of artifacts belonging to Mexican Revolutionary War President Venustiano Carranza including a Colt SAA revolver, .45 cal., 5-1/2” barrel, wood grips, with inscription “1915” and “V. Carranza” on the right lower side of the revolver’ frame, #66180; a Mexican leather and pitiado holster and cartridge belt; a bronze portrait plaque of Carranza; a finely painted miniature portrait of the President; an original sepia tone photograph of Carranza with hand written and signed sentiment in Spanish and a notebook of additional research and copies of photographs of Carranza including a signed document from noted Mexican artifact collector Danny Neill verifying his securing of the gun from the direct descendants of Carranza. Also included is a copy of the out-of-print book by Brenner and Leighton “The Wind That Swept Mexico”. The gun is in overall fair to good condition showing an even light patina on metal surfaces with an old well-done Mexican repair to the top strap and period replaced trigger. In addition to the period inscription, the wood grips show two metal and enamel buttons inlaid into the tops of the grips, one on each side; the grips are in good condition and match the patina and wear of the rest of the revolver. The holster rig is an ornately designed leather arrangement with beautiful design in pitiado (cactus fiber) showing classic border war era designs and a large desert flower and vines in high relief and extending across the front of the holster; cartridge belt is decorated en suite and is also in good condition. The miniature painting is expertly accomplished during the early 1900’s and reportedly the bronze plaque at one time hung on the side of the Presidential palace during Carranza’s reign. Venustiano Carranza was born in 1859, was President of Mexico in 1914 and again from 1915 through 1920, making him the longest reigning leader of the Mexican Revolutionary period. He was instrumental in the defeat of the much-hated Victoriano Huerta and was assisted in this effort by the likes of Pancho Villa, Alvaro Obregon and Emiliano Zapata. As was consistent with the politics of Mexico during the time, Carranza forces reportedly were responsible for the assassination of popular Emiliano Zapata which led to the assassination of Carranza and installation of Obregon as President, basically ending the Mexican Revolution. A great grouping of Mexican Revolutionary historical items with impeccable provenance. Est.: $4,000-$8,000+.
