Historic authentic presentation 14kt gold badge by Shreve & Co. of San Francisco, in the classic shield form, approx. 2” x 1-1/2” in fine condition inscribed on the front “To GEORGE H. BURNHAM, Chief Deputy United States Marshal on his retirement after more than a quarter century of faithful service, FROM U.S. Marshal Fred L. Esola and his associates as a token of their high esteem, Dec. 31st 1925, San Francisco, Calif.”. This exact badge is pictured in “Badges of the U.S. Marshals” by Ray Sherrard and George Stumpf. Burnham was first appointed a Deputy U.S. Marshal on June 1, 1899 and rose through the ranks to Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal, retiring over 25 years later. U.S. Marshal Fred Esola was the Marshal for the Northern District of California at the time of the presentation. An important piece of U.S. Marshal history worthy of a place in any collection or museum. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
