Historic and Identified World War II U.S. Army Contract Remington Rand Model 1911A1 Pistol with Ownership Associated to the 10th Armored Division

This is an excellent example of a late WWII contract M1911A1. The consignor states, "The pistol was carried during training in the UK, then from Normandy to Innsbruck by Sergeant Marlin Andrew Ressler of Texas, who was assigned to the 10th Armored Division. The Rennsler family sent 5 children to war. Two sons in the Army, two sons in the Navy and a daughter in the Medical Corps. All came home safely. The Royal Engineers Dorsetshire pin came from a British soldier who was repairing damage on a bridge they needed to cross.". The 10th Armored Division was associated with Patton's Third Army that was engaged in numerous significant battles in Europe during WWII. This example is marked on the left side with the later third style slide markings of "REMINGTON RAND INC./SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A.". The frame has the initials "FJA" for Frank J. Atwood the U.S. Ordnance inspector for Remington-Rand along with a "P" proof below the magazine release button and on top of the slide. The right side has the standard United States Property mark with the "crossed cannon" Ordnance proof stamp towards the rear. It has the standard late war features such as the stamped trigger, narrow hammer spur, serrated mainspring housing. It is fitted with a set of Keyes Fiber grips and a High Standard barrel. This desirable pistol is accompanied by a history of the 10th Armored Division, that includes several black and white photos of the original owner, a 1944 dated 1916 pattern US leather holster, two 10th Armored Division shoulder patches, two armored collar tab insignias, a metal tunic pin from the Royal Engineers at Dorsetshire and a small two blade "colonial" marked pocket knife with three unidentified unit badges.
