Historic Winchester Model 1885 Hi Wall single shot rifle, in rare caliber .44 W.C.F., 28” octagon barrel, S/N 50971, blued finish, wood stocks and period-marked “P.M.S.S. Co.” (Pacific Mail and Steamship Company) in overall very good condition displaying a brown patina to the barrel and grey patina to the receiver; fine bore, crisp action, sharp markings and very good + wood stocks. Accompanied by an original factory letter confirming caliber, barrel type and length and also noting a #3 barrel weight and plain trigger. This rifle was received in the warehouse on Sept. 24, 1891 and shipped on Sept. 28, 1891 to order number 11476. The Pacific Mail & Steamship Co. was founded in 1848 and was instrumental in the transportation of goods and people to the California Gold Rush area. It also handled the shipment of U.S. Government and private mail. Its many ships traveled to Central and South America, to the Northwest of the U.S., to Alaska during the Klondike gold rush and also to China and the Orient carrying passengers, mail and goods. The Company was
