SN 77XXX deluxe presentation rifle with factory letter confirming features including inlaid compass and plaque. The plaque is engraved "Presented to William A. Graham by the Mill Men Combination, Mont February 4 1893". The combination Mining & Milling Co. was formed in 1887 mining for silver after the previous Black Pine Mining Co. went bankrupt by the old share holders. It is recorded between 1883 - 1893 $20,000,000 in silver was removed from the mine. The mining operation was shut down in the late 1890's when silver prices dropped. It is not clear who Graham was, most miners and management during this time frame, he must have been well respected. Much of the old records and documents from the company are in the Montana Historic Society archives and could provide information on Graham. The rifle remains very good original condition showing condition as follows: Barrel retains a blue toning to plum patina with sharp edges, magazine tube thinned to gray brown, both original and uncleaned. Receiver and lever show silvery gray areas of case color, loading gate with bright blue. Buttplate silver drifting to fray, all original with no touch up. Deluxe walnut stocks very good, NO cracks or repairs, average light use and storage dings, unsanded the buttstock with old clear coat. Factory silver inscribed plaque inlaid on right side and factory inlaid compass on left. Factory letter confirms 28" barre, 45-90 cal., checkered pistol grip stock, silver plaque and compass shipped 1893 with Lyman sights. Action functions perfectly with very good bore. A fine Winchester with great features and Montana History and condition. Antique. Est. 10000-15000
