Born in 1728 in Birmingham, England, Matthew Boulton achieved important status, having been connected to a number of industries. After the Sheffield process was discovered, Boulton moved to the city of Shefflied to learn more about this technique of creating heavy silverplate. While Boulton was successful in every enterprise he became involved with, his success in the Sheffield process was unparalleled. <p>Offered here is a pair of Matthew Boulton-created three-light Sheffield plate candelabra, circa 1790-1810, 17" high, 14" center, 17" wide; small Gadroon edge on base and bobeche. Incredibly beautiful in their simplistic elegance and wonderful historical English pieces.
