Historic J. Edgar Hoover Presentation Cased Colt Montana Territory Centennial Commemorative Single Action Frontier Scout Revolver with Documents

These revolvers were manufactured in 1964. This example was presented to J. Edgar Hoover Director from the Butte Division Associates to honor his 40th anniversary as Director of the Bureau of Investigation which then turned into the FBI. The revolver has the standard markings and features including the smooth synthetic pearl grips with gold Colt medallions. Comes with the original hardwood display case with two plaques on the lid. One is engraved "TO/J Edgar Hoover/DIRECTOR, F.B.I./May 10, 1924 May 10, 1964" and the other is engraved "HONORING/Fortieth Anniversary/FROM/BUTTE DIVISION ASSOCIATES". With research provided by the consignor that shows the trail back to J. Edgar Hoover. A majority of the research is by Larry Wack and Walt Merritt retired FBI Special Agents. There is a scanned copy of the J. Edgar Hoover estate inventory which lists and describes a revolver matching this one and a research article that describes and lists this revolver by serial number. Clyde Tolson was the Executor of J. Edgar Hoover's estate, John Mohr was the Executor of Clyde Tolson's estate, Dr. Richard Mohr inherited this revolver from his father and then sold it along with other items to a Zachary Leiner D.D.S. where the trail goes cold. The revolver is also accompanied by a copy of J. Edgar Hoover's book "Persons in Hiding".

Excellent, 99% of the original finish remains with only some scattered minor handling/storage marks overall. The case is very fine with scattered minor scratches and dings. The book is very fine. This revolver has a very interesting history and would make a fine addition to any collection!
