.45-60 cal. SN 20301.. Winchester belonged to the Zoeckler Brothers Half Ranch the butt stock carved with brothers William and Peter's "1 / 2" brand on left stock. Old records indicate the Zoeckler's arrived in Deadwood1870's, purchased land in 1881 adjacent to the Spruce Gulch area known as Lawrence County Pest House which is currently the location of the Day's of 76 Rodeo ground and Museum. The Deadwood Pioneer recounted in 1884 the Zoecklers having to pay Indians toll money to get their herd through to Deadwood. Pioneer further states the Zoecklers owned a Butcher Shop on 101 Sherman St. and later a Packing house. Records also indicate William married Sadie Behnke in 1891 and had 2 daughters.
