Historic Beaded Vest, Quirt and Scepter
Ca.1900, Beautiful, fully beaded Cree-made vest with traditional floral motif and Cree alphabet symbols, given to and worn by the famous Hopi "Judge Hooker" Hongeva. Included in the group are his (Sioux-made) quirt and sword made of Chinese coin. Hooker and all three items are shown in two A.C. Vroman photos in "Dwellers At The Source" by Webb & Weinstein, page 65. The group was purchased from a family friend in 1974 for $750. All three items are in very good condition. Judge Hooker was Chief/Mayor of Sichimovi in 1902 and this vest could even pre-date that; with extensive provenance. Large
