Hip-Hip! Another Ship 60 x 40 WWI Poster Hip-Hip! Another Ship.
Hip-Hip! Another Ship. 60" x 40" Artist: George Wright. Printed by the United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation. This huge poster is scarce and thus extremely popular. Its large size and the quality of paper on which it was printed make it a hard piece to find in good condition. This image is fantastic, a man ontop of either the mast of a ship or a flag pole, calling out, "hip-hip! Another Ship!" The onset of the war in 1914 created an immediate shortage of shipping service, which grew worse as the war dragged on. The Emergency Fleet Corporation had the power to acquire vessels by requisition, commandeering, and seizure; they could also assign cargo and routes, and regulate hours and wages of laborers. Between 1917 and 1922, the government built more than 2,350 ships at a cost of nearly $3 billion. This poster was made to celebrate the speed in which ships were being cranked out and sent overseas. The consequences of this mass production would not be realized until much later. A fantastic poster, in great condition!

Condition: Fine; severe tear on top edge, normal wear on edges from rolling/storage, dirt stains and residue on upper edge.
