Featured in this lot is this Himba goat ear, married woman headdress, circa 1920's. The Himba "Red Ochre People" are considered the nomads of Namibia. This ornamental headdress is made from wire, cut and beaten into beads and sewn into the leather and treated with animal fat and red ochre; the headdress is topped with eight goat ears sewn together and decorated with cowrie shells. The condition of this headdress is poor; it is falling apart in places, but it will make a great display piece. The measurements of this ornamental headdress are 21" from back implement to chest piece and 3 1/4" x 5 3/4" x 4" for the goat ear head adornment.
