Highly important cased pair of high art Belgian-made H. Dumoulin & Fils-Milmort bolt action rifles, 30-06 caliber and 300 Win Magnum, 24” round barrel on the 30-06 and 28” barrel on the 300 Win Magnum; engraved stainless steel receivers, custom checkered, special graining wood stocks with Monte Carlo cheek pieces, both in like new condition, #s 1 of 100 gold inlaid on both guns’ barrels at the breech and presented to the late John Bowden Connally, Jr., Governor of Texas, Secretary of the Navy under President John F. Kennedy and Secretary of the Treasury under President Richard M. Nixon. (While he was Governor of Texas, Connally was a passenger in the car in which President Kennedy was assassinated and himself wounded in the shooting). Both guns are like new in condition showing approx. 99%+ original blue on the barrels. On the 30-06 rifle, the barrel address is done in gold inlay, the receiver is highly engraved with the United States Marine Corp. insignia inlaid on the top front of the receiver in gold, engraved scene of the flag raising at Iwo Jima on the top rear of the receiver, and Marine riflemen moving up Mount Siribachi engraved on the floor plate. The stock is outstanding on this rifle with fine checkering, multi-colored wood accents on the fore end and pistol grip cap; the butt pad is a fine Pachmayr product and the bolt of the gun is jeweled. On the second bolt action (300 Win Magnum caliber), there is a gold inlaid U.S. space ship at the top of the breech end of the barrel along with a silver or platinum astronaut in space suit and making a walk outside the ship; there is engraving on the top front portion of the receiver showing the historic first walk on the moon and on the top rear portion of the receiver is gold inlay “Spacelab Mission 1” and a NASA insignia engraved with gold also at that location. Also included in the engraving on this gun is a gold inlaid American Flag on the bottom of the trigger guard and the U.S. space ship and launch boosters engraved on the floor plate. This rifle also shows outstanding graining in the select wood stock and multi-colored wood accents on the fore end and pistol grip cap; the butt pad matches the pad of the other rifle and both have a sling swivel at the rear and a sling swivel eyelet at the front underside of the barrel; the gun also has a jeweled bolt and both rifles have hooded front sights. The leather covered wood casing is in like new condition and also has a canvas cover that protects the leather and the historic set. The interior is red velvet and in the French style with separate cutouts for two screwdrivers, two brass oilers and a cleaning rod. There are also two covered compartments, one for the key to the case and the other for the sling swivels.
