Highly engraved presentation grade .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol by CG Haenel of Suhl, Schmeisser’s Patent, with carved ivory grips showing winged “U”, the symbol of Ernst Udet, who was the second highest scoring German flying ace of World War I to survive the war. His 62 air victories were second only to VonRichthofen (The Red Baron), his commander in “The Flying Circus”. This famous pilot’s exploits during WWI have filled several novels. Between the first and second world wars, Udet worked as a stunt pilot and playboy, appearing in motion pictures and attending parties in Hollywood. He was a lively and fun-loving individual who attended many parties and took many lovers. Udet also produced air planes and had adventures in Africa. He joined the Nazi party in 1933 when Goering promised to buy him two American airplanes. He piloted Stuka bombers in aerobatic shows during the 1936 Olympics. Udet was the major proponent of the dive-bomber which was used so effectively by the German Luftwaffe. In 1936 he was placed in command of the T-AMT, the German Reich air ministries’ wing for development of aircraft. He disliked the politics and became an alcoholic. When the war
