Highly customized, engraved and 24 K gold inlaid Colt SAA revolver by legendary Master artist Leonard Francolini, 44-40 cal., 5-1/2” barrel, blue finish, thick ivory grips, #S33572A. This gun is in like new condition and was created specially for the 2003 Colt Collector’s Association Annual Show in Tampa, Florida. In addition to its extensive delicate vine engraving and numerous 24 K gold inlays, the Colt exhibits the rare screwless frame and the variation of a “push-in” cylinder pin. In addition to the double gold banding of the barrel assembly, there is extensive gold inlay scrolling on the barrel and both the top and left side printed panels are gold inlaid; the front sight is cutout with an expertly accomplished silver Rampant Colt figure standing in the opening of the sight; the frame shows engraving accented and bordered in gold inlay; the cylinder is also engraved with gold inlay banding with flame trim gold inlay that matches the flame trim inlay on the top of the frame. The straps show the same flaming inlay with a combination of engraving and gold leaf engraving on the back strap. The serial number on the frame is also gold inlaid and there is a large detailed raised gold Rampant Colt on the recoil shield. The grips are fine with beautiful mellow ivory color and graining. An outstanding custom modern Colt SAA created by one of the foremost engravers of the 20th century. Included with this lot is a letter dated October 1, 2003 from Leonard Francolini confirming his engraving of this gun and a detailed specifications list of what he performed on the weapon.
