Highly Desirable/Rare Thomas Burgess Custom Mauser Bolt Action Sporting Rifle

This is a Thomas Burgess custom rifle, built on a highly desirable prewar Mauser Model 98, "STANDARD-MODELL" marked action. Thomas Burgess was certainly one of the more famous Giants of the postwar custom gun making industry, who was especially well-know as a master metalsmith. This excellent rifle has a custom turned barrel chambered in 7mm Rem Mag, with an integral front sight ramp that is fitted with a Redfield front sight blade. The rear of the barrel/top of the receiver has a custom made one-piece, rear sight base/front scope mount base with a matching rear scope base, (without scope rings) However the bases are similar to Redfield scope bases so rings can be easily acquired. The bolt knob has two, hand-checkered panels with a side swing safety lever with a jeweled bolt body and follower. The top of the barrel is marked "THOS. M. BURGESS RIFLEMAKER". The rifle has been beautifully stocked in a very dark, straight grained English walnut with nice figure in the forend with the straight grain running through the pistol grip. The stock has been meticulously hand-checkered on the pistol grip area and forend with a super small 22 or 24 lines per inches checkering. The stock is fitted with an old Redhead, basket weave pattern, red rubber recoil pad.

Manufucture: Mauser

BBL: 23 inch round
Stock: walnut
Guage: 7 mm Rem Magnum
Finish: blue

Serial Number: 857520

Very fine as custom built with 98% of the rust blue finish with some thinning in areas. There is minor pitting at/below the stock and action line where moisture has seeped in. The stock is fine plus with minor handling marks on the sides in a few places from light use with a small hairline crack just starting at the rear of the trigger guard. The checkering is crisp overall. It is missing the lower sling swivel stud. Mechanically excellent.
