Overall, construction is polished brass with silver edging, a metal brim and a "lobster tail" pattern protector for the back of the neck. The chinstrap is leather with brass scales, with the hinges decorated with black/ white/ red and black/ white/ black cockades. On the front of the helmet is a raised silver sunburst arranged around the badge of the Order of the Black Eagle, with the text "MIT GOTT FUR KONIG UND VATERLAND -1860-" (with God for King and Fatherland) arranged around it. On top of the helmet is a silver eagle mounted on a nickel plate, with outspread wings and a royal crown.
