***Auction Highlight*** 1903-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded AU Details By USCG. This date is the most widely recognized of all Morgan silver dollars and has the lowest mintage of any business strike issue, just 100,000 coins. Over the years, this issue has developed such a fame that the offering of any example regardless of grade or quality, will cause considerable excitement and activity. Few have survived in Mint State, possibly as many as 100, although opinions on this topic differ. Certainly none were included in any of the past Treasury coins released in the 1960s or earlier. Walter Breen discussed a single group of 20 Mint State coins that was found in a bag of 1894-S dollars, located in Montana in the 1950s. PCGS and NGC have combined to certify just 51 examples of this date as MS60 or finer. This is an extremely small population for the large number of collectors desirous of a Mint State coin. Considering the number of resubmissions that have likely occurred, the population becomes even smaller, perhaps 30 to 40 at most. This is a Very nice example for the grade, with only a few marks and lines. The luster is closer to satiny than frosty, and is primarily off-white with a hint of champagne toning.. Both of the specific identifying characteristics on the obverse are plainly visible. This is a wonderful opportunity to secure a high grade 1893-s with excellent eye appeal for the grade.
