***Auction Highlight*** 1808/7 Draped Bust Half Cent 1/2c Graded Choice AU By USCG. 0 Up for auction is a numismatic rarity. It is the legendary 1808/7 Draped Bust Half Cent. The example at hand is by far the finest we have ever had the privilege to bring to auction. To quote Doug Winter of PCGS Doug Winter: The 1808/7 Half Cent is one of only two overdates in the Draped Bust series (the other is the 1802/0). This overdated obverse was used with two different reverses, resulting in two die varieties: Cohen 1 and Cohen 2. The example at hand is the 1808/7 Cohen 2. It is scarce and in great demand because of its appearance as a distinct variety in most price guides. High grade examples are very rare; in fact, no Mint State 1808/7 Half Cent is known to exist. To date PCGS has actually graded one 1808/7 as Uncirculated, and has only ever graded 1 coin as au58. This example is tied for 3rd finest known. The lone uncirculated example to have recently come to light is believed to have previously been in an ngc au58 holder. Trends on this mega rarity are au58 $20,000, and au55 $15,000, but these numbers are misleading. As the lone au58 is currently offered for sale at $79,500 and the last time an au58 went to auction was in 2005. Additionally when an au53went to auction at goldbergs in 2011, it realized $24,150. The condition census on this amazing coin is 2 in xf45, 2 in au53 and 4 in au55, 1 in au58, and 1 in unc. Only 9 coins have ever graded xf45 or higher, and it is believed that 2 of those 9 are the same coins. This is your opportunity to own one of the finest known examples!
