High quality late 19th to early 20th century machete with etched and nickeled blade, horn grip scales, marked “Schutte Eunemann & Co., Accero Antizado” with horsehead logo and catalog # 351. The blade shows period etching of Indians onhorseback roping buffalo, 75%-85% nickel finish, some light erosion and aging where nickel has lifted; grip shows some wear and large losses on one side; blade is very good + to near excellent. The machete measures 21” overall with a 16-1/4”blade, and is the only example we have every viewed with such a great scene on its blade. An exhibition or presentation piece in our opinion. The roping of buffalo was a performance stunt in the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, as the AmericanIndian was too wise to try roping a wild buffalo. Ex Rex Arrowsmith Collection. Est.: $350-$700.
