High quality double barrel percussion pistol by Anton Escherich of Baltimore, Maryland showing strong German influence to style and engraving. The pistol measures 8 ½” overall with 3 ¼” barrels of approximately .54 caliber smooth. The rib isnicely signed to script with makers name and city. The tang is deeply chiseled engraved showing a figure of a man carrying a fowl and a portrait of Hunter is also deeply chiseled and engraved on the trigger guard. The frame and mounts are nicelyscroll engraved as accents to the chiseled panels. The condition is very good plus with a light gray to brown patina and just some slight beginning normal coloring and age. The stock is a varnished light-colored wood with a slightly striped grain.Possibly maple or fruit wood. The action works well and the ramrod is missing. A most unusual American-made pistol dating about 1840s-50s. Est.: $600-$1200
