High quality Dutch flintlock horse pistol circa 1700 – 1720, signed Oger LeBlan. The pistol shows fancy brass lock and mounts that were gold gilted. The barrel is nicely chiseled with figures and scrolls. The pistol is stocked in good quality walnut and nicely raised carved. The pistol measures 16-1/2” overall with 9-1/2” barrel of approx. .65 caliber smoothbore. The barrel and stock have been shortened during period of use. Thebarrel, which is now 8-1/2” was probably 12-1/2 to 14” originally. The mounts are very crisp and very ornate and show classic figures of serpents, scrolls, faces, and slightly Romanesque motifs with masked buttsand stands of arms. The overall condition is very good plus. An original to the period ramrod is included. This pistol was one of a pair and its mate is thought to be in a collection in Southern California. The lockand hammer are nicely chiseled and the pistol is in its original flintlock configuration. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
