High grade presentation U.S. Militia Officer’s sword with scabbard inscribed, “A token of respect from the Officers and Soldiers of the Lynn Light infantry to their worthy commander Capt. T. Munroe JR”. Theblade is also finely etched and inscribed, “to Capt. T. Munroe JR, June 1837”. The hilt is fancy and pierced with a union type shield at the center. The pommel is a Roman style helmet and a chain drapes the guard andpommel. The grip shows abalone pearl overlaid onto wood with silver engraved ribs. The scabbard show fancy relief mounts, one (1) shows eagle with shield and the other shows stand of arms. The body of the scabbard isfinely engraved on front with a portrait of American Indian with palm tree in back round. The tip portion of the scabbard (9-1/4”) is missing. The blade is etched with Indians, eagles, florals, the slogan “Liberty I willdefend Thee” and a Roman warrior matching the motif on the pommel. The blade is near fine with most of its bright polish and etching showing some just beginning normal age. The history of this well liked officer should be
