High grade Civil War era presentation sword and scabbard by Clauberg; period inscription “From the Soldiers of the First Regiment of New York Vols. to Colonel Wm. G. Allen as a tribute of their affection and esteem In Camp before Richmond, Va. JUNE 1862”. This sword and scabbard are in overall very good un-cleaned condition showing a very good + blade with etched spread eagle, “US”, stand of flags, etc. and considerable gold wash in etching still present; “W. Clauberg, Solingen”and the standing knight emblem are present on the left side of the blade at the base; the cast guard and pommel are very ornate with accenting oval red stone at the top of the pommel showing an old chip and a series of smaller round red stonessurrounding the pommel with three stones long missing; there is an old collection copper disc marked “829” attached to the wire wrapped grip and there are two additional red stones on either side of the forward flare of the hand guard.There appears to be considerable gold wash remaining on the guard that displays an ornately intertwined “US” inside leaves, acorns and a spread eagle over Union shield on the apex of the pommel.
