Also known as the Number Two First Model and produced circa 1876-1877, the Baby Russian receives its moniker from the break latch, long ejector housing and backstrap knuckle. Pinned blade front and notch rear sights, with the two line patent and address markings on the rib, reading from muzzle to breech, with flanking Maltese crosses, and matching numbers on the latch, barrel, cylinder and butt. With a casehardened hammer and checkered plastic grips with "S&W." imprints at the top. With a green fabric covered box, bearing the instruction sheet on the inside of the lid, and the "picture label" on top, featuring a Baby Russian in the center and the text "SMITH & WESSON/No.38/Automatic Ejector,/SPRINGFIELD, MASS.". Inside the box is a small disassembly tool, a wire barrel brush, and a set of five vintage Winchester 38 S&W cartridges.
