High Quality Mid-19th Century German Percussion Jaeger Rifle, .50 cal., 30-1/2'' octagon barrel marked ''Schmidt in Dusseldorf, Guss Stahl''. Lockplate, hammer and nipple bolster are nicely engraved in Germanic scrolls with Stand of Arms just forward of hammer arch; Scheutzen-type scroll triggerguard is lightly adorned in similar motifs, early double set adjustable trigger, European walnut fancy checkered and engraved full-length stock with small German silver hardware and horn forend cap. Patchbox is engraved with William Tell type scene of man with crossbow preparing to fire at another figure standing in front of a tree with round object on top his head. Condition is excellent with burnished steel barrel toning moderately to brown. Stock shows light scuffs and dings, with thinning to checks on stock. Set trigger is crisp, missing front sling swivel, with correct steelhead ramrod. Est.: $2,500-$3,000.
