Hermann Herzog | The Mill on the River

Artist: Hermann Herzog | 1832-1932
Title: The Mill on the River
Signed l/r: H. Herzog
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 31 by 41 1/2 inches

Condition: Good
To the unaided eye, the piece looks to be in good condition. The artwork has been lined and there is an upside down T area where the canvas had been torn. The horizontal edge of this T is approximately 12 inches from the top and 16 inches from the right of the canvas. The horizontal edge is about 10 inches long and the vertical portion is about 6 inches in length. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals inpainting in many areas, the most prominent being the T area already described. There is inpainting in the lower left, a small spot approximately 5 inches from the right and 14 inches from the bottom and another horizontal line, about 4 inches long that occurs approximately 11 inches from the bottom and 6 inches from the left edge. The piece is framed in an ornate carved gold leaf moulding and is in good condition with normal wear for its age.
