A young man with black bowler hat with a green feather and red open vest is attempting to ride a long-necked goose that is straining at its reins. Delicate painted reins and whip. Circular green base. Bottom stamped: HEREND HUNGARY HANDPAINTED. Ludas Matyi was the Robin Hood-type folk hero of the eponymous 18th-century epic poem by Hungarian poet Mihaly Fazekas.
