Here’s a very special find for collectors: a Winchester Model 1876 lever action rifle, .45-60 cal., 28” round barrel, blue finish, wood stocks, #10708 with a tintype of the original owner proudly holding this gun,purchased in 1880 on the occasion of his 40th birthday; accompanied by 3 handwritten notes covering the purported provenance of this piece as it descended from the original owner, the man in the tintype, Henry Puyey,late of Vermilion County, Illinois and a veteran of the 125th Illinois Vol. Infantry during the Civil War, thru his great grandson and several noted collectors to our consignor. The gun is in overall excellentcondition showing approx. 97% original bright finish, fine bore, sharp markings, fine wood stocks, original sights and original sectional cleaning rod in the butt trap; case colors on the lever and hammer are nearcomplete in visibility and the interior of the action is also minty. A factory letter dated 1989 confirms caliber, round barrel and plain trigger; also notes received in warehouse Oct. 1, 1880 and shipped on Oct.
